The Melt Flow Rate or MFR for short is the flow rate of a thermoplastic at a prescribed temperature and amount of sample through a capillary. Based on this information, different types of material can be distinguished and it can be determined whether a material is degraded or not. When a material is degraded, this often results in a higher flow. Determining the MFR is a test method that is widely used for inspection of the incoming material and for monitoring production processes.
The KARG MeltFloW @on is designed to determine the MFR (Melt Mass Flow Rate) in grams per 10 minutes and MVR (Melt Volume Flow Rate) in cubic centimeters per 10 minutes according to ISO 1133-1 and ASTM D 1238 method A and B.
The MeltFloW @on consists of the following parts:
- Control unit
- Motorized automatic cutting blade
- Motorized lift for weights
- Standard press mold with standard cylinder
- Cleaning tool for press and cylinder
- Software tool k-BASE
Depending on the material to be tested, there is a wide range of standard weights, between 1000 and 5000 grams. The available standard weights are 1000, 1050, 1200, 2160, 3800 and 5000 grams, which can be combined if desired, creating a maximum mass of 21.6 kilograms. Additional weights are available in 1600 and 2500 grams.

In addition to the MeltFloW @on, a Plus version is also available. The MeltFloW @on Plus comes with a standard integrated warehouse, which contains all available weights.
The k-Base software offers everything you need to perform the analysis and evaluate the data. The MeltFloW Basic is connected to the PC using an RS232 or USB connection. Each k-BASE version is linked to the specific instrument, but can of course be installed on other/multiple computer systems.
It is even possible to set the software to the Dutch language online. Users can be created with varying degrees of authority and the standard database with material properties ensures that little information has to be entered manually. It is also automatically checked whether correct data is provided in the program. All relevant test data, material properties, etc. are shown in the report according to the standards.
